A Little Lagniappe

Howdy,

Having just had our second set of tests in the program, time is airborne. Having spent the last four years at LSU in Baton Rouge, it was originally an adjustment moving back to the Big Easy City. Now having gotten situated in a quaint apartment with awesome roommates, it made this transition as seamless as it could be. Of course, my Tulane family of classmates and faculty are a huge component for how homey this past month has felt. The course instructors present the material in a way that fosters a receptive learning environment. Resources to help us succeed are at our fingertips, whether you choose to use the Yuja lecture recordings or the godsends known as the Pharmwiki articles and quizzes.

While the course material itself is certainly nothing less than master-level, I absolutely adore what we are learning about. The first module prefaced us with a background of drug potency, NSAID's & Anti-Histamines, and this past block had us hit the ground running with Antibiotics, Anti-Fungals, Anti-Virals, and the joys of Anti-HIV drugs. Though the studying keeps me occupied with little time for many other activities, the staff research seminars are always awesome to hear about what new findings come out of the Tulane labs.

The classroom information isn't the only awesome happenings; while not having any service to report for the month, I recently reached out to Lighthouse Louisiana to volunteer! They are an organization devoted to assisting visually impaired individuals get jobs and aid in reclaiming their independence. I also have planned to help out with the New Orleans' Recreation Development Commission in the Outdoor department. I would be able to luckily combine my passion of outdoor activities like canoeing with helping to facilitate a warm and welcoming environment for kids in the Greater New Orleans area. I will keep you guys posted on everything going on in the coming weeks!

Cheers!
